Export Requirements

Product-Specific Export Requirements

Cocoa
  1. Register with MAAIF under the Cocoa Development Programme.
  2. Dry and sort cocoa beans to the appropriate moisture level.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Get quality verification from UNBS (optional, if required by buyer).
  5. Apply for Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  6. Submit all export documents to URA for clearance.
Key Agencies Involved:
Tea
  1. Register with Uganda Tea Development Agency (UTDA).
  2. Grade and pack tea according to UTDA and UNBS specifications.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  5. Submit documents for clearance with URA.
Agencies:
Dairy Products
  1. Register with the Dairy Development Authority (DDA).
  2. Ensure dairy products comply with UNBS food safety standards.
  3. Obtain a health certificate from DDA and phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA OR Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  5. Submit export documentation to URA for clearance.
Agencies:
Fruits & Vegetables
  1. Register with MAAIF under the horticultural export scheme.
  2. Ensure product sorting, grading, and packaging standards are followed.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA OR Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  5. Submit all documents to URA for customs clearance.
Agencies:
Gold
  1. Obtain an export license from the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines (DGSM).
  2. Comply with anti-money laundering and traceability procedures.
  3. Submit assay reports and other technical documents.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA OR Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  5. Submit to URA for customs clearance.
Agencies:
Poultry
  1. Register as a poultry exporter with MAAIF.
  2. Animals must pass veterinary inspection and quarantine.
  3. Obtain animal health and export permits from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA OR Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  5. Clear export documents with URA.
Agencies:
Oilseeds
  1. Register with MAAIF under the oilseeds development programme.
  2. Ensure quality control and sorting of produce.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA OR Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  5. Submit documentation to URA for customs clearance.
